PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Major areas of groundwater work for Mr. Ponce include field monitoring and technical report writing for siting, geologic log analysis, design, construction, and testing of new municipal-supply wells. Mr. Ponce has also provided field monitoring and technical report writing for well rehabilitation projects, mostly centered within southern California. Areas of additional responsibility include electronic data management and analysis, and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to help evaluate hydrogeologic conditions. Mr. Ponce is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Duties include: field monitoring of each element of drilling and construction of municipal-supply, irrigation-supply, and groundwater monitoring wells; providing technical and administrative oversight of well drilling, zone testing in open pilot holes, well construction and development, pumping tests, and rehabilitation activities on production wells and monitoring well projects; field sampling of water quality parameters and water level data during construction and testing of new and rehabilitated water wells; hydrogeologic interpretation of data via computational and mathematical means under various aquifer settings; preparation of hydrogeologic feasibility studies and well completion reports; producing spatial analyses, raster maps, and presentations of datasets using GIS software to create various maps and graphics; database management of well information; and the preparation and completion of final project reports for clients.

Work primarily focused on the Exide residential cleanup program in Los Angeles, working with the Department of Toxic Substances Control. Duties included: writing technical reports; work site monitoring, including oversight of work crew; compliance with local and State environmental ordinances; preparation of work plan (including CAD drafting); and permit procurement. Site monitoring also included taking soil samples before and after each property had gone through the entire remediation process. Mr. Ponce also worked in public outreach, coordinating with the local and State agencies as well as the public. Other experience included low flow well sampling of monitoring wells in accordance to company standards.
USGS VOLUNTEER
Peach Springs, Arizona
2017
Assisted in a project that involved the use of geophysical techniques to assess dimensions of a groundwater aquifer in the Redwall limestone. This included the use of gravity method, transient electromagnetic method, and controlled source magnetotellurics. The resulting data were used to help settle a water claim near Peach Springs, Arizona, on the Hualapai Reservation.
NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY VOLUNTEER
2016 – 2018
Conducted field work using seismic refraction. The resulting subsurface data were analyzed to assess the volume of sediment in a section of alluvial fan near Schultz Creek in Flagstaff, Arizona. The written analysis (“Technical Analysis of Sediment Storage within the Shultz Creek Alluvial Fan, North Flagstaff, Arizona”) was used by the City of Flagstaff to help asses the hazardous conditions of slope stability that follow wildfire and heavy monsoon rainfall.
Conducted field work in the San Francisco volcanic field in northern Arizona through the use of seismic refraction. The resulting data were analyzed to assess the formation of cinder cones in the area.
Assisted in graduate student research into the formation of the Mount Morrison roof pendant in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Responsibilities included sample crushing, dry sieving, using a water table to separate heavy mineral sediment from light mineral sediment, and zircon separation and preparation.
