June, 2022 RCS Welcomes Kendall Tipton

In June, 2022, Kendall Tipton joined the RCS team as our fifth Staff Geologist, and we are happy to have her. Ms. Tipton comes to us from Flagstaff, Arizona, where she received her B.S. Degree in Geology.

Happy Retirement to Earl LaPensee

On May 1, 2022, RCS employee Earl LaPensee retired. We shall miss his vast knowledge of previous jobs at RCS, and are grateful he's just a phone call away.

An employee since 1989, Earl has been a solid contributor to the success of RCS, working side by side with Richard and then the rest of the crew. As the years have passed, Earl has done an excellent job in mentoring the younger geologists. Earl's plans for his newly-retired state include hiking, traveling, and rock-hunting.

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Anthony Hicke has been promoted to Principal Groundwater Geologist at Richard C. Slade & Associates LLC.

Mr. Hicke is both a licensed Professional Geologist and a Certified Hydrologist with over 21 years of groundwater consulting experience, twenty of those years with RCS. Major areas of groundwater work include management for projects such as well construction, groundwater basin evaluations, groundwater availability studies for agricultural clients, hydrogeologic conceptual models, and technical documents to support the creation of Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs).

Since December 2008, Mr. Hicke has performed the duties of the Assistant Watermaster of the Upper Los Angeles River Area under Richard Slade, the Court-appointed Watermaster of ULARA, collecting and analyzing data for the annual reports and review documents prepared by the Watermaster.

Congratulations, Earl LaPensee

Mr. LaPensee is both a licensed Professional Geologist, a registered Professional Hydrologist with the American Institute of Hydrology, and a Certified Hydrologist with over 35 years of groundwater consulting experience. Mr. LaPensee joined RCS in 1989, and lately has focused mainly on the development of groundwater resources in southern California groundwater basins. This involves the siting, design, and technical oversight of construction for municipal- and irrigation-supply water wells, as well as writing technical reports.

Mr. LaPensee prepares many of our proposals for cities, counties, and water purveyors throughout California. These proposals include cost estimates for RCS work, as well as engineer's estimates for construction work.

His project management experience encompasses the design and construction monitoring of water wells; design and monitoring for rehabilitation and redevelopment of existing water-supply wells; graphically interpreting data in a variety of hydrogeologic settings; and helping clients with their CASGEM compliance. Other tasks include technical report writing, electronic data management, and preparation of proposals and cost estimates for hydrogeologic projects.

January 2022

Happy New Year!

Since the shut-down in March 2020 due to the pandemic, the staff at RCS has been working remotely, with an employee in the office a few times a week to answer phone calls and pick up the mail. All of us have gotten quite used to Zoom and MS Teams online meetings. Much of our paperwork has been moved to online, another welcome change.

In 2021, as vaccines became available, our staff has gotten vaccinated and then, later, boosted. We wear masks in the field, we wash our hands regularly, we wipe down our equipment, and we keep safety always uppermost in mind.

Also in 2021, we have added two geologists to our staff, Mr. Tony LeBeau and Mr. Alan Ponce, both welcome additions. Mr. Sean Fulcher has moved to the East Coast to obtain his PhD from Cornell University and has transitioned to working part-time for RCS.

There are more of us in the office now, but we are not yet back to full staff in the office each day. Hopefully that will change soon.

In the meantime, everyone here at RCS wishes you and yours a happy and healthy New Year.
