Career Opportunity: Staff Groundwater Geologist
Two Positions Available



Richard C. Slade & Associates LLC, Consulting Groundwater Geologists, has immediate openings for two staff groundwater geologists in our Southern California (Sherman Oaks) office. Our current employees are all degreed Geologists, and are currently licensed Geologists and/or Hydrogeologists in the State of California, or are working toward registration. Our firm, which has been in continuous operation since 1983, has a wide range of groundwater-related projects and a diverse client base throughout the State. Currently, some of our active projects include extraction/injection/ASR well feasibility studies, well construction and design, well rehabilitation, and groundwater regulation compliance projects.

Position 1:
Staff Groundwater Geologist, entry level to 5 years of experience.



Responsibilities


Job responsibilities could include any/all of the following tasks: geologic logging of drill cuttings and field monitoring during well construction; evaluating and correlating electric log signatures; preparing technical specifications for well construction; evaluating the feasibility of developing groundwater resources in a wide variety of geologic materials; identifying locations for potential new water supply wells; writing and preparing technical reports; evaluating existing wells for possible rehabilitation, and defining rehabilitation protocol; onsite field observation during well rehabilitation; developing and managing groundwater databases; sourcing data from large databases; preparing hydrographs, well location maps and geologic maps, and cross sections; designing and conducting aquifer tests, including the deployment and operation of water level data loggers; and Geographic Information System (GIS) work.

Qualifications


The new staff groundwater geologist must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. A BA or BS degree in Geology or Hydrogeology (or related field) is required; MA or MS is a plus. Entry level applicants may apply, 1 to 5 years of experience preferred. Experience should be related to the siting, design, construction observation, testing, and/or rehabilitation of production water wells and/or deep monitoring wells. Must be able to obtain registration as a Professional Geologist (PG) within 6 years. Experience with the Microsoft Office Software Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) required. Experience with GIS software (ESRI) is required. Desirable, but not required, qualifications include: groundwater modeling experience; Leapfrog or similar visualization software; R or similar programming language. Position consists of 50% or more field work, and travel is required within the State; a valid driver's license and reliable employee-owned transportation is required.

Position 2:
Staff Groundwater Geologist, 5 to 10 years with project management experience.



Responsibilities


Same requirements as Position 1, with the following additions/modifications: Will include project management work, with the applicant expected to maintain communication with clients and drilling/pump contractors throughout the job, including monitoring project finances for client and internal project budgets. The applicant will be responsible for coordinating field operations and maintaining liaison with the client. Experience should be related to the siting, design, construction observation, and testing of production water wells and/or deep monitoring wells.

Qualifications


Same requirements as Position 1, with the following additions/modifications: Must be registered as a Professional Geologist (PG) in California, or be able to attain registration within the first two years of employment; California Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) registration is a plus. Strong GIS software skills (ESRI) are required, preferably with a portion of past employment including substantial GIS work. Proposal writing experience. Desirable, but not required, qualifications include: groundwater modeling experience; Leapfrog or similar visualization software; R or similar programming language. Position consists of 25% or more field work, and travel is required within the State; a valid driver's license and reliable employee-owned transportation is required.


Job Description (both positions)


For any of our projects, the job may require the ability to:
  • lift 50 pounds regularly
  • respond quickly to sounds
  • move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces
  • see and respond to dangerous situations
  • work in inclement weather
  • wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day
  • travel during the week, and possibly stay away from home on an occasional basis for multiple nights
  • work alternate shifts (such as over night shifts) during water well construction and/or well rehabilitation projects
  • accommodate fluid and changing field schedules dependent on Contractor schedules and progress, and weather


Work Location (both positions) - Hybrid


Our employees enjoy a hybrid work schedule, dependent on field obligations (onsite construction observation or data collection site visits). Currently, employees are required to be in our Sherman Oaks office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, each week, with the option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays (subject to change). On remote work days, employees must be able to attend last-minute field assignments, as necessary. Internet access and computer sufficient for remote desktop access must be maintained by the employee.
